Theme for Anthologies, Issue 1

Our first edition of Anthologies, which we will publish on the web, will be on the theme of Beginnings.

The deadline for submitting pieces to the zine is 30 September 2026. We will curate and prepare the zine in the months following the deadline.

Here are a few ways you could interpret this edition’s theme:

• How do you know when you are ready to start something new?
• How did you feel when you first started doing something new? This could be learning a new skill, going travelling, volunteering – whatever applies to you.
• What do you think of when you hear the word “beginning”?
• Have you ever started something new and realised it wasn’t for you? Was that moment a stepping stone toward something bigger and better?
• When does your day begin? How does your day begin?
• How do beginnings relate to ends? Does one thing end and a new thing begin, or is there an intermediary moment where something is both ending and something is beginning?
• Imagine a character who feels they need a new beginning. What did the character used to do? Who do they want to be?
• Imagine a character who has just started something new and feels lost. How do they grow through their initial anxieties?
• Poetic prompt: When does a song begin?

We have a contribution guide set up to help you with submitting your writings. You can also discuss with the community on our new forum.

Please note that since this is our very first issue, we may take longer than expected to publish it. We should have a more reliable schedule for you for subsequent issues once we have a well-tested workflow in place.
